Aid for Somalia

With 2011 classified as the driest year on record in the eastern Horn of Africa, the health, livelihoods and food security of millions of Somalis, Ethiopians and Kenyans are at serious risk.  IMI has already acted upon its responsibility to provide help in the affected region.  IMI began collaborations with humanitarian organizations with local networks in August and is working with BETA Charitable Trust and cooperation for Health and Education Programs (CHEP) to provide assistance with food, water, and livelihoods development. Over the last seven weeks, CHEP volunteers personally reached over 11,666 households (89,929 individuals) in 37 villages and refugee camps, and dug shallow wells to provide access to cleaner water for use in farming activities as well.  IMI’s partnership with CHEP and BETA will provide immediate and long-term relief to those affected through continued food distribution and an increase in the rehabilitation of wells and support of livelihoods including farming activities.

Our thoughts continue to be with all of the victims, and friends, families and loved ones of those impacted by the explosions at the Boston Marathon yesterday. Heartfelt condolences to those families who lost their loved ones in the attack.

IMI's 4th Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission: UPDATED!

For the fourth year in a row, IMI coordinated a medical mission in Iraq this Arbaeen. This year, IMI more than trippled our impact by caring for over 19,000 patients during 3 weeks.  IMI’s plans at Arbaeen this year involved an expansion of medical services, with 2 camps, one at Babel Qibla and the other in the Haram of Hazrat Abbas (A.S.).  Additional medical services were also provided at Al Safeer Hospital. A similar set up was coordinated for the IMI Medical Camp in Najaf as well where IMI will once again ran a 4-day medical camp inside the Haram of Imam Ali (A.S.) during the Shahadat of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali Reza (A.S.).
